George Mason University’s Team 4Ward recently took first place at Project S.E.R.V.E.’s third annual National Design Competition with a project designed to support Paralympic athlete Dan Rizzieri.
The team developed a residual limb warming device aimed at helping athletes compete more safely and comfortably in extreme cold conditions—an issue many winter para athletes regularly face.
Built in collaboration with Rizzieri, a double below-the-knee amputee who competes in bobsled and skeleton for Team USA, the project reflects the impact of athlete-centered design and thoughtful engineering.
